Against the odds, Sumeya’s journey from a childhood marked by trauma in East Africa to experiencing military sexual trauma in America is a testament to unbreakable spirit. She refused to let injustice or silence be the end of her story.

Determined not to accept a world where survivors are pushed aside and offenders go unchecked, Sumeya used her hardships as fuel to make a difference. With a fierce sense of purpose, she founded Rise Above—a movement founded on the belief that “Sustenance comes from the creator, not people.” The rallying cry, “Embrace the suck,” motivates us all to endure hardship with resolve and transform struggle into strength.

Rise Above is more than an initiative—it’s a safe haven for those seeking to reclaim their power. The foundation stands out by offering active-duty women vital access to civilian legal representation, comprehensive mental health support, and financial aid for survivors of domestic violence pursuing freedom.

What truly sets Rise Above apart is its dedication to authenticity and trust. Every case is meticulously verified by experienced legal professionals, supporting true survivors while ensuring fairness and maintaining community confidence. This balanced approach makes certain both survivors’ needs and due process are respected—an essential perspective in today’s divided discussions on trauma.

Rise Above’s launch features two cornerstone fundraising events:
• Gala Night for veterans and military families—August 20th at Tower Club, Tysons Corner.
• Golf Tournament for athletes, martial artists, and advocates—September 29th at Belmont Country Club.
• All are welcome—raise awareness, contribute, or champion a fundraiser to help spread hope and challenge systems that keep survivors silent.

Whether you’re a veteran, athlete, martial artist, law enforcement professional, self-defense enthusiast, or a believer in turning adversity into achievement—this is your chance to make a difference. Join those who confront injustice and refuse to let survivors be silenced.
